Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the capability of computers to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. AI has been changing our lives for decades, but never has AI felt more ubiquitous than now. As humans, visual sensing is central to the way we learn about the world, and it follows that the pursuit of AI to have human (or better than human) skills, will require substantial advances for computers to process and interpret the sensing visual data. Therefore, in this talk, I would like to share our research experience on the aspect of AI in using computer vision and deep learning to empower computers with visual intelligence, i.e., offering computers with the ability to learn from the sensing visual data without being explicitly programmed. Practical examples involving several application domains, such as human behavior understanding, personal fashion advising, smart social media, and industrial manufacturing, will be presented and discussed.
